Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a nation-wide campaign from the period 2014 – 2019. The aim of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiated by the Prime Minister of India is to clean up the streets, roads, river and sea beaches, infrastructure of India’s cities, towns and rural areas. The mission of this scheme includes eliminating open defection through the construction of household toilets and public toilets.
The project aims to achieve an open defection free India by October 2, 2019, the 150th birth aniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by construction of 90 million toilets in rural India. The project costs 1.96 lakhs crore.
The mission was officially launched on 2nd October, 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Swachha Bharat, a passionate slogan given by the Prime Minister of India, is slowly turning this country into a healthy nation. A clean India is a healthy India. A healthy India means a wealthy India. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
The programme was undertaken by XYZ School with the co- operation of the Block-level, government personnel, teachers and students. The programme commenced on 2nd October, 2019 with the formation of child cabinet.
On 3rd October, the class-rooms, toilets and urinals were swept and later cleaned with phenyl-water. The school compound and the adjoining roads and drains were also cleaned. On the next day a seminar was organised to make the students and the people aware of the necessity of a clean and pollution free atmosphere.
On the 5th October, the students divided into groups under the guidance of teachers visited the adjacent villages to make a survey on the health and hygiene of people. The following day was fixed for the reporting of the survey to local B.D.O. On the sixth day, a “Sit and Draw” Competition was organised on the theme of “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.
As a part of this programme, the students and teachers took out a morning rally in the adjoining areas on the last day with slogans, festoons, banners urging people to use toilets, safe water and maintain proper health and hygiene. The Cleaning Drive programme created a huge stir among the guardians and the local people. The programme ended with an oath to bring a change in ourselves for the transformation of the whole nation.
