Tree Plantation Programme
(by Sumit Roy)
Howrah, 5th June: Adarsha Sikshayatan celebrated the World Environmental Day on 5th June in a noble and befitting manner by conducting a tree plantation programme in the school and its surrounding areas. The Headmaster of the school who presided over the event added grace to the occasion.
The programme began with the traditional way of hoisting the National Flag. Then the Headmaster of our school delivered a brief speech for the assembled students about the significance of the tree plantation programme and the importance of trees and plants to make the area full of greenery and to reduce the effects of global-warming.
The most striking feature of this event was that it was organised by the Eco-Club of our school. Then the students were divided into groups and they were provided with saplings to plant them at the selected spots in the school as well as in the surrounding areas. They also watered the trees and made fencing to protect the trees.
The interesting part of this programme was that some students of class X performed street drama to make the the people aware of the importance of trees and plants in recent times. This way about 400 saplings were planted as part of the mega programme that generated a lot of stir and enthusiasm not only among the students but also among the local people who came out in numbers watching and encouraging the honest and humble efforts of the students.
Then event ended with an oath to protect our environment by conducting such tree plantation programme to establish the worth saying – “one tree, one life”. At the end tiffin was served among the students.
