Also, there are opportunities to be gainfully self-employed if one has entrepreneurial ability. The student is prepared by his training to make the choice suitable to his temperament. This work experience enables him to assess the kind of work and the demands of the environment to which he must mould himself for the future.
Challenges in Hotel Management Job:
On the negative side, one’s social life is very restricted. The odd hours on duty, the seasonal festivals spent away from home and family threaten the normal existence of an average man. But the hotel industry is not for the average person. It is a career demanding total involvement. The happiness and professional pride arise out of this.
Skills Required for Hotel Management Job:
Personality:
To succeed in the hotel industry one must have the right personality. The keynote of this personality is adaptability. He must first adapt his very person, his “self-image” to the requirements of the industry. He must groom himself well, wear a pleasant expression and be as outgoing as is decorous.
Discipline:
Next, he must resolve to adjust to the severe discipline and the social pattern set down by the hospitality environment. His image should be that of an alert, practical, result-oriented person who is not afraid of hard work but has had wide general interests and participated in extra-curricular activities as a student. In the long run an ambitious person who is diplomatic and discreet rises higher in the industry than one who is merely outgoing.
Practical Mindset:
A dreamy or bookish person, however intelligent he may be, is often disillusioned when he faces the practical reality. Experience also shows that a person with good familiar and educational background has assets to start with because he is equipped with the basic social skills so important for the industry. However, these social skills can be induced in a receptive young person by the very ambience of the educational institution he attends.
It is, therefore, imperative that those wishing to mould themselves successfully for a career in Hotel Management should select the right institute.
